Hi! I deleted Windows from my laptop because of an error and am now reintalling it. I have a DX2-40MHz and 20 MB of RAM. When I try installing it, an error comes up saying that I need more free base/standard/something like RAM to continue! It tells me I need ant least 450KB free! I have twenty MB of expanded RAM! Why does it need that base RAM or something like that? HELP ME PLEASE!

Is it telling you that you don't have enough CONVENTIONAL memory to continue installation? If so, what TSRs are being loaded? You may need to unload them or edit your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to load a more minimal configuration.
You could have 20 *gigabytes* of physical RAM installed, but you'll only ever have 640KB* of conventional memory on a 16-bit or 32-bit x86 system.
Loading fewer TSRs should solve the problem.
----------------------
*This figure is rarely exactly 640KB. Sometimes, just over 700KB of conventional memory may be available. It varies from system to system and depends on how the system shadows adapter ROM, what adapter ROM is present, and whether the system remaps memory addresses used for addressing ROM.

Have you ran Memmaker in custom setup? To do this, press "C" at the beginning when prompted to do so. Awnser yes to every option, and press enter. Specify to load all drivers in the high memory area, and do not allocate any programs as needing expanded memory. Load DOS=HIGH in your autoexec also. Doing this should give you enough memory to load WFW 3.11 on your machine.

DOS=HIGH goes in the config.sys
you also can try to get any device drivers loaded in config.sys to load in high memory.
where:
device=c:\......
put
devicehigh=c:\....
(.... just means rest of the line, whatever it may be)just don't try to put himem.sys and emm386.exe like that
