First of all- this is such a wonderful site. I don't know what I'd do without it!
I have win3.11-I have had to reload with floppies. But at the present time I have an a:\drive and a c;\drive...but no d:\drive. Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem? Thank-you.....:)

Is the D:\ drive your CD drive? If so, you'll probably need a CD driver and MSCDEX.EXE, to run the cd (these files go in the config.sys and autoexec.bat files, respectively). BOth files are free. I suggest signing up with DriverGuide.com.

Hey, Celeste
Is this related to your previous post?
486's will not autodetect CD's... nor will DOS6xx.
if your CD drive is an old one, it may need to run off of its own soundcard - - early models were like this - they may appear to be IDE (40 strand cable) but weren't really. Best is if you have the original installation software, and (of course) the original card to run the device from (if appropriate). If it does run from an IDE cable (slave to the hard drive), make sure the jumper (on the CD drive) is set to 'slave' - may help.
The old CD's could be a real pain to set up, particularly under DOS - it might almost be worth going to Win95, as suggested in your previous post, just for compatibility... but, to be sure, a 'proprietary' CD drive (sound-card drive) willl probably not work unless it's driven from its own sound card, with the appropriate drivers.
Hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree ;-)
Basically, Win3xx is not aware of CD drives directly, it relies on DOS - if the thing is OK by DOS, Win3xx can use it - if not, it can't.

it sounds like you have an old type cdrom that is driven through the sound card software. I have a couple of those in my old machines. If you can find out what make cdrom you have installed there is a program called voyetra which is an audio station program, it comes with the drivers needed for the old type cdroms
