Hi I just got 3.11 loaded. Have no exp with it,Trying to get modem to work, Modem is a ISA analog modem it dident come with any drivers when I bought it. And has no manufacture or modle number on it. 3.11 Couldent detect it as a network adapter. It has allways worked in. Win95,98,me,red hat,suse,mandrake,Freebsd. With out me loading any drivers, So I know... 1.It is an analog modem. 2.It can use generic drivers. Does anybody know where I might find A driver four it? I will settle four just a internet connection!!Since ill triple boot it. But will 3.11 will ever run with svga and sound on my pc? SyS specks 850p3,256md Sdram,128 Rage fury,creative live,30gb hdd. I know its pushing it a little but is dvd,cdrw possoble? As I said ill be happy with just an internet connection.But I am a newbie with newbie questons! Thanks in advance.. Iam lost!:-)

About the internet question, do you have some sort of dialer software installed? For example, Internet Explorer has a built-in dialer that will detect your modem and install the correct driver or a generic one. I don't know for sure what you are already using, but if you need Internet Explorer, you can get it from the browser page of the Win 3.1 section of my website. If you don't want to use IE, but still need a dialer, try downloading IE 3. That one will let you just install the dialer without installing IE.

Update! I am typing this from win3.11 With IE3.0 Using an ISA analog modem. The fun never stops :-)

PC Freak (and others): You don't have to push IExplorer all the time. One of the best things about win 3.11 is that it is the last OS from Microsoft that didn't come pre-packaged with proprietary internet components. You have the choice to add any dialer and browser you want. My dialer/tcp manager is Trumpet Winsock 2.0 and my browser is Netscape Communicator 4.04. Modem--ISA analog.

The reason I push Internet Explorer is because it is what I have had the most success with. I tried a couple other dialers along time ago and never got them to work. What I like about IE3 is it lets just install the dialer with out IE. So if I wanted, I can just have the easy to use dialer and, say, Netscape, without IE. And as you can see, Markp also had success with it. I don't have anything against other dialers, though. Whatever works for you. I just promote what worked for me.

One question... With those computer stats on you, why are you still using 3.1? 3.1 was a good system for the time (it was small and didn't come with the extra stuff), but it is very difficult to manage and its stability is poor. Upgrade to at least 98 Second Edition!
