Hi, I am trying to network my 3.1 with my 98SE but my 3.1 requires the Network.drv file which I deleted a looong time ago when I was a kid as I didn't think we could possibly afford another pc. (lol - back then they were expensive!) I checked my 3.1 setup and backup disks and they don't seem to have network.drv either. I'm not sure if this "violates" computing.net rules, but does anyone know where to get 3.1 utils like the network driver? Thanks

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Don't you just love misleading windows messages! There is no 'network.drv' per se..rather, the windows system.ini has the line 'network.drv=(whatever) ..in my case it's 'network.drv=wfwnet.drv'..
So when windows starts looking for it's 'network.drv' it's redirected to whatever network.drv points to
I'm not aware of win31 ever looking for this, however..are you referring to wfw311 instead? If so, try putting that line in ( in the 'boot' section of your system.ini..)
What protocol are you using to network the two together? usually installs for both tcpip and others add all the necessary files to use them...in any case, wfwnet.drv is part of a standard wfw install, so you should have it ..

I don't have Windows 3.1 WFW - just the normal 3.1. This computer used to be on a network ...believe it or not... way back in good old '94. We then recieved it for free in '97 after the company trashed their 3.1s. It used to be networked to other computers in my mom's company. I'm not sure how u can access the network now because I think the company deleted the network - protocols 'n' everything. So I decided to delete network.drv. Windows 3.1 prompted for a network.drv, but of course, wasn't there. I then added a fake network.drv which was empty. The system no longer prompted for network.drv

When trying to network the computers up, I went to Main - Windows Setup and chose to add network. I chose Microsoft Client 2.1 Basic and I got the MSClient Setupfiles from some website. Win Setup prompted for Windows Disk 2 and I inserted it. It finished setup successfully, or so it appeared. When I went into File Manager - Disk - and NO Connect Network Drive. I restarted my computer and Microsoft Client bugged me for the following... I'll get it tommorow

OK then..'network.drv' must be a MSClient file..it's not a normal windows file..that's all i know..i've never had plain ole win31 hooked up to a network tho either...tried it once and it sucked up way too much conventional memory for my taste...
Good luck..
