Name: PC Freak
I just downloaded and install the standalone Netscape Navigator for Windows 3.1 on this system. Everytime I try to start Netscape, I immediately get a message saying, "NETSCAPE.EXE has caused a General Protection Fault in module WIN87EM.DLL". It seems like I've heard of this problem, but I don't remember anything about what causes it or how to fix it. Any ideas?

OOPS!!! Duhh!! Sorry blonde moment here. Here are a few pages:

http://www.texramp.net/techbits/NetscapeGPF3x.html

The last link is aimed directly at windows 3.1 GPF's with netscape, but you may get the info you need from one of the others as well.
good luck, and remember: 386's don't die, they multiply!
:)

Thanks for the links, but nothing has worked so far...
I have tried Netscape Communicator 4.08 and the stand-alone Navigator 4.08, and they both have the same problem... I was going to try a slightly older version (like 4.07 or 4.06), but Netscape's site was giving me problems so I couldn't download it.
This is weird, because Netscape works fine on another system I have running WfW 3.11... Maybe it just doesn't like Virtual PC for some reason?

I guess it's not that big of a deal to get Netscape to work here. I just installed Opera 3.62 (which I'd never really used much until now), which I'm finding I like a lot, so I'll probably jsut stick with that. It's way of having the windows inside the main window is the closest thing to tabbed browsing (which I'm addicted to) that I've seen for Win 3.1x anyway, which is nice.I'd still like to have Netscape for a couple things, though, so if anyone has any solutions, I'd be glad to here them... ;)

I thought it was just OS/2. but I ran NS 4.08 under OS/2 and it crashed alot. but I found a copy for OS/2 (4.6) and it works. and for some reason IE 3.03 doesnt like OS/2 Warp 4.0.
