Comment:

Having successfully loaded Nero4.0.3.0, I now find I need a driver for the HP 8200i CDRW (IDE). HP drivers are for 95, NT4.0 or later.

Does anyone know whether: a) any of the above would work with 3.1 or 3.11, or b) anyone else can supply a suitable driver?

Many thanks.

J.G.

I thought Windows 3.1x and Dos do not support cd writing. you can still use it as a cdrom though.

to use it as a cdrom. take a 98se bootdisk, and copy it to c:\ then add these lines to config.sys

device=oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
device=btdosm.sys
device=flashpt.sys
device=btcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
device=aspi2dos.sys
device=aspi8dos.sys
device=aspi4dos.sys
device=aspi8u2.sys
device=aspicd.sys /D:mscd001

im not sure if this works or not. the only time used a cdrom in dos is when i installed my operating systems.

The HP 8200i already works well as a CD-ROM and Nero 4.0.3.0 works with Windows 3.1. It is just that, without a CD-RW driver, Nero will go through the motions of writing but to any drive except the CD-RW.

Have you checked that Nero 4 Supports that drive, I had to have an update to EZCD Creator 5 before my HP drive was recognised in later Windows.

I am not sure, but I seem to remember that only SCSI drives work with Nero under Windows 3.1x.

I have SCSI rewriters myself so I never had problems to get them working.
I havent got experience with IDE rewriters under 3.1x yet....

Soedesh is right; thank you. Nero only supports SCSI devices under Win 3.1. While the Nero history page says that the HP 8200 is supported by 4.0.3.0., mine is an internal, IDE drive.

Thanks X86 for the DosCDRoast website, I'm now checking this out.
