I have a friend with a computer problem. It's from the early nineties and his CD rom drive is Creative. The hard drive is 2GB. He doesnt have any USB ports. It is a Dee One System. it came with windows 3.00.
this is what is wrong:it says Device name and them MDCDNQ1. then it says no drives found aborting installation. It reads the CD rom drive, but I, nor he, can figure out why it does not work. It says that after I fdisk then format. I did not copy the Win98 start up files.

Boot the computer with a Windows 98 boot disk and choose CD-ROM support. For a boot disk: bootdisk.com .If this does not work try the CD-ROM driver eltorito.sys with a MS-DOS 7.1 boot disk. This driver is hardware independant. If this fails too the CD-ROM drive may have failed.Get the driver from http://www.nu2.nu .Good luck.

Where is (was) the CD Drive connected? Does it have a Creative (Sound Blaster) sound card? If so. Does the card have a connector for a drive(s)? If so. Then you might not have a ATAPI CD Drive. Or check model number of CD Drive.

Sounds like a Creative Sound/CD-ROM Bundle to me. Creative used a number of differant drives. Take a look here for Driver downloads including the excellant CD-ROM GOD Driver Disk. Check it out!
