Hi kathi:
Since you have an older PC using a CD-ROM that's not plug & play, you'll need to find the DOS CD driver & customize your win 95 install floppy disk (must have driver installed to floppy & changes made to drvcopy.inf, config.sys, & autoexec.bat to work).; DRVCOPY.INF
;
; This is the Driver Copy information file for
; real-mode CD-ROM drivers.
;
; These driver(s) are copied to the root of the hard disk
; during setup, and are installed in config.sys and autoexec.bat
;
; This file MUST be modified by the OEM prior to shipping
; to end users.
;
; OEMs will need to modify this to add the proper name(s)
; for their real-mode CD ROM drivers.
; Lines that must be modified are marked OEM_Modify
; You can also copy additional drivers and add lines to autoexec.bat
; and config.sys using this file.

The other way to install Win 95 is to use a floppy install version or to have a large enought hard drive where you can use Win 3.1 (if you can get CD-ROM to work) to create a directory like win95cd, then use File Manager to copy all files (including hidden files) to your hard drive (you can leave out the funstuff data). Then you should be able deltree Windows (1st) then DOS (last) directories (make sure you delete hidden files in c: (io.sys, msdos.sys, & command.com files before using deltree). Then use Win 98 startup to a: & use dir command to start (c:\win95cd\setup), you'll still need to put CD-ROM driver on hard drive & use autoexec.bat to make it work. This is a lot of work, but trying to get older CD-ROM drives to work is a real pain.Good luck.
