Comment:

Hi! I recently got a Contura Aero 4/33C from a friend. When I try to start it, the only thing that appears on the screen is 4096 KB OK. What's the problem here and how can I fix it? I need this notebook really badly, I hope someone can help me with this!

Could be the CMOS (BIOS) battery is gone (with a notebook that old it wouldn't be a suprise) or a hard drive that's went to bit-bucket heaven. Leave it on for several minutes and see if any error messages are displayed.

Try a dos 6.22 disk 1 to see if that will work.
Turn computer off ,install dos disk 6.22 1 and turn on computer... then see if it will boot.

You can download a simple MS-DOS Bootdisk from my Bootdisk Project Page. (Link above)

Turn Laptop off.
Insert Bootdisk
Turn PC back on and you should get MS-DOS message and A:\ Prompt.
I all is OK. Type SYS C and press enter.
remove diskette and turn off.
Turn Laptop back on and it should now boot to the C:\ Prompt.

Read the notes on the Bootdisk Project page on how to create a bootdisk.

Please reply with a message to let us all know we are on the right track with your problem

Hi guys, thnx 4 the replies! So far I tried T-R-A's tip, about leaving the notebook on for some time but after a couple of hours nothing else beside the 4096 KB OK appeared on the screen. I just downloaded the Powerload files to a clean disk, thnx Mick, so I'm gonna try this next when I get home. I'm not sure I understand the notes on the bootdisk project page, I'm not that familiar with all this, especially not in English, so I installed the MS-DOS 6.22 Bootdisk and mback622.exe on my disk. Please tell me if I have it wrong!
