Hi, i'm Tim, I have a 486... I was recently just deleting files out of my file manager and now my computer thinks i have no "D:" drive. I have a very basic understanding of computers (which is probably why i deleted an essential file). I can't remember the name of the folder i deleted but on start-up i get this error msg:
Bad or missing
c:\SCSI\ASPI2DOS.SYSWhat i hope that i am able to do is find replacement files for what i have deleted. I don't know if i can find my origional disks (i've had this computer for 6 years).
As i said i'm hoping to find somewhere where i can get the files i want and put them on a disk and drag them from a floppy to my file manager (though i'm 60% sure that this isn't going to be this simple).
Evewn simpler would be if there was some sort of recycle bin which i could just recover the files from... but i haven't come across one on my system :(

Download a Windows 98SE OEM boot disk, this is a self extracting image executed on win9x/NT PC, .from
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htmWhen you check the created floppy you will find the file aspi2dos you require, you need to copy it to the c:\scsi directory

the only good thing about errors and accedents like these are that you get to learn from them, in fact thats how i learned most of what i know about computers, so here's what happened with you, the file you deleted is called a driver file it tells your computer what the device is and how to use it. this file is loaded in the config.sys file on you c: drive then a file called mscdex.exe is loaded in the autoexec.bat file the mscdex file tells your computer what drive to use for the cd. usually a generic driver for a cd will do just fine but there may be cases that it doesn't work, the boot disk suggested above uses a generic driver i don't know that the file said above is on that boot disk but it might be if it isn't then tell us cause there is a way to use the generic driver for the cd rom. and a good rule of thumb is to NEVER delete anything the has a .sys extension and NEVER delete anything that you don't know exactly what it is. good luck
