I have some x.001 files which I believe were made with MWBackup. Now I miss this file, and don't know how to get my archive back (using either W95 or Wnt). Does anybody know where to find mwbackup, or go around? thanks

In fact, iI found mwbackup on http://www.oldfiles.org.uk/powerload/index.htm (very nice stuff), and I tried it, unfortunately it tells me my *.001 archive was made with MSBACKUP. I found it there as well, but when I go to MSDOS mode and run restore.exe it tells me there is incorrect version of MSDOS. Of course, I am only inder w95, wNT or wXP. How can I get dos6.22?

Hi ALesage:
When I used Win 3.1 the mwbackup & msbackup used the DOS OS to work (they are both located in DOS). The backup needs to use the correct version of DOS to work (from what I remember), if you made a backup with 6.22 then that will not read a 6.0 backup & so on. If you have an old HD, just install DOS & use msbackup to retrieve backup, then use the HD as slave to copy to other Win95. If files are small you could copy them to a floppy.

Good luck,
Z

I am sorry to say it is a bit of Hit & Miss with MSBACKUP and MWBACKUP
Both of which are not interchangeable)

If you look on my PowerLoad Bootdisk Project Page you will find MS-DOS versions of MSBACKUP along with System Bootdisks.

Versions 6.0 & 6.2 used DoubleSpace
and
Version 6.22 used DriveSpace
to help create backup sets.
