Hi folks.

I'm trying to restore a backup done with MWbackup but they no longer have the catalog file. Is this catalog file just a simple text file? I.E. Could I manually rebuild the catalog file?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael:
MWbackup & MSbackup (you run this from DOS, exit Windows, it's a way to restore files if you can't get into Windows) are the same DOS utility program, to restore the backup files you need to go to the restore section where it will ask for the last disk of the backup disk (#5, #10, last disk). After you restore backup files it should show a (*.ful) file, that contains the files data.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I dont have the original disks that the backup was created on. However, using the rebuild option I was able to rebuild the catalog. I am able to browse the backup now but I'm having difficulty actually getting MSbackup to restore the archive. I'll try again and post back.

Hi Michael:
The floppy disks is where the backup data is stored, the *.ful file is just a list of what was backed up on the floppy disks.

Good luck.

Z,

I understand that. However, these backup files were e-mailed to me in an effort to restore them. Hence not having the original floppies nor the catalog file. I have since put them (the backup files; filename.001, filename.002, etc)onto floppies.

Hi Michael:
I just checked some old DOS 6.22 & the floppy label on disks is DEFAULT FUL, the data is like this sample (cc80913a.001). The 8 is the year 98, the 09 is month, the 13 is the day, & the 001 is disk #1. One last thing you need to be aware of is that you must have the same version on the MSbackup files in DOS to work, I found that if I had a DOS 6.0 backup 6.22 won't recognize it.

Good luck.
