I want to start Outlook express, not being able to load hotmail into Outlook I go back to outlook express. but when i start it i get message: Outlook express cannot be started because msoe.dll could not be loaded.
If I do a file-find it show as if this file was present in C:\Programme files\Outlook Express, but in Explorer this file doesn't show up. what to do?

I use outlook express (version from ie5) on my WFW 3.11 and msoe.dll does not exist on my system. I believe that the file you're looking for should be msimnui.dll.

If you're system ask you for msoe.dll, this is very puzzling indeed!!!

Try downloading IE5.5 from msn.com. When asked choose customise and the click on outlook express from the list given. It might say that you have the latest version already, ignore this and continue the process. It worked for me and only took about five minutes.

I created this problem in Windows 2000 when I changed the following registry key. I wanted to alter the default installation directory for software from C:\Program Files to another drive and directory.

*****************************************************
"The Registry Key to change to have the software default install to drive D:
can be accessed through the following registry location using regedit in
Windows 95 and regedt32 in Windows NT.

HK_Local_Machine
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion

Key is located here - ProgramFilesDir is the key."
*******************************************

This change seems to confuse Outlook Express, causing the error that Outlook can't find MSOE.dll, and that the hard disk is full or the computer is out of memory.

There are two solutions. Change the registry key back to the original value, and reboot the system, or MANUALLY de-install Outlook Express, and MANUALLY re-install it.

This is not a trivial undertaking, but is pretty straightforward. Check out the following Technet Reference for detailed instructions. Good luck.

Windows 2000? Pissed off at microsoft cause Outlook Express is giving you "msoe.dll cannot be loaded". b---tards. If you are running 2000 none of the fixes you will find will work. You have to re-install it manually. Don't worry all your messages will still be there.

Here it goes, do a file search for Msoe50.inf and then when it finds it "right-click" on it and the on the pop-up menu click install. When it is all done copying files. RESTART.
It worked for me! Nothing from microsoft helped thought :0) lol

I had the same too and tried most of the solutions offered, none of which worked. I did not wish to tamper with registry settings. Then in response #3 above, I followed the link and hey presto! Here's the link http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q272/2/65.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0
