Just Wondering, Is it possible to play MP3 files in an older operating system such as Windows 3.0. Hardware isn't an issue. It's the OS. Are there any versions of Winamp available for Win3.0. If anybody knows where I can get a media player for that version of Windows, please let me know. I'll take any suggestions!

Nope. Not 3.0 ..by itself win30 doesn't even support sound at all..maybe if youve got the multimedia pack 1.0 that came out by the end of it's existence..but the proper MCI drivers really werent integrated until windows 3.1..which is a different matter entirely.
Although there's not a lot of mp3 players for win31, the ones that are out there are pretty good (audioactive player and winplay3).
Windows NetShow player also had a 16bit L3Codec (mp3 decoder) but the win31 media player can't interface with it..i suppose it was meant for the (unfinished) 16bit windows media player 5.2 beta, that was supposed to eventually be able to play mp3's, AVIs, and windows media content, but ended up only being as ASF player (netshow files)..

ive gotten mp3s to play in windows 2.0 and GEos dont ask they were so dumb they just let the driver load but you have to manually edit file like autoexec adn config

To play MP3s on Win 3.1, try my Software -> Imaging/Multimedia Section. There are a few progs there to let you do that. Some might even work with your Win 3.0, but if not, just install 3.1 (look around buddy!).
HTH.

First off upgrade to win 3.1 as there are no programs that can play mp3 files for win 3.0 as it lacks a protected mode, winplay being the best choice. On a couple side notes a. Your processor needs to be a dx class or have math coprocessor abilites b. dos CAN NOT play mp3s because it requirews HEAVY miltitasking (play the file, decompress, along with other runnig pgms.) I don't even think it is possible on anything less than a 486.
