Hi,

During the install using w3.1 Setup) to my Toshiba 225CDS laptop, the mouse worked fine for all of the options and selections.

When I run w3.1 the mouse is dead. I have gone through all the available mouse options in Windows Setup. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dave

Well, if anybody responds without reading your previous posts, they will not know that you are running Win3.1 on an emulator which is running on Win2k or WinXP. You have written previously that you are running Win3.1 in DosBox (which was interesting to read, I didn't know you could do that). That means that DosBox is the program which is running on the OS that has control of the mouse hardware. So, first thing is to check that DosBox is correctly receiving the mouse data from the OS actually controlling the hardware, and then that DosBox is communicating this data to programs running on it. By the way, as far as Win3.1 setup for the mouse; it doesn't matter what kind of mouse you have, what matters is what kind of mouse DosBox is emulating for the program it's running. Probably a conventional "Microsoft mouse".

Hi again Pyro,

Hmmm, sorry, too little information from me again. {grin} I am doing two things.

1: I installed DosBox http://www.dosbox.com/ under XP on a desktop PC. I then installed w3.1 into it and that is working fine for the mouse but it did not have Printer pass through to XP. That is the very thing I needed w3.1 to run and print to a 25W Laser engraver. I am currently working on the Printer aspect and will report back progress for future users.

2: The other thing I did was to FDisk my Toshiba laptop to a single partition and then format it FAT32. I installed DOS 6.22 and then w3.1. It is this install that the mouse is non operational on. Even though the mouse worked fine during the w3.1 installation process.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment though.

Dave

"format it FAT32. I installed DOS 6.22 "

MS-DOS 6.22 does not recognize FAT32 natively.

Also this is now 4 posts very confusing...

There some kind of mistake there, DOS 6.22 can't be installed in a FAT32 partition. It would read it as a "NON-DOS PARTITION".

I don't know about your particular Toshiba, but if your talking about the built-in touchpad or stick-mouse, it would, most probably, be a PS/2 mouse. Windows shouldn't have any problem using it.

Guys.. if you are running windows 3.1, and dos, you need to make sure you load mouse.com on boot-up.. If memory serves, you have to make sure the command for mouse.com is in the autoexec.bat file and/or also in config.sys.. Hope this helps.. Boy.. Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.1 is SUCH a long time ago.. ewww!
