Comment:

I picked up this DX2 system from a garage sale and it has DOS 6.22/WFW 3.11 install on it. Works except that I have to go into CMOS at every bootup and reenter all the settings. Seems that the battery is dead. Problem is that it's soldered to the Brand X motherboard! It looks like a short cylinder laying over sideways w/ a lead coming out each end and has "3V Lithium" stamped on it. Could I just cut it out near the solder joints and solder leads from a 2AA holder from RadioShack to the legs?

Sure - if you're careful. Pretty easy to damage the traces.

Alternatively, you could see if there's a connection for an 'external' batery pack - 2 or 3 prongs, usually near the installed battery, often marked as 'ext. batt.' or similar, as well as with a '+' sign.

You can purchase a battery pack to plug in - may also need to set a jumper.

Some additional info

I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime
