I have one getaway 2000 486/25 the one
have been not in use for long time, now that I turn it on say missing operating system, what can I do to make it start?

You can use a DOS boot disk to get it up and running (format a disk in dos with the "format a: /s/q") or if you have Dos install disks put the first dos disk in and boot up the computer and install dos.

Try the first one so you can see what is on the Drive. The Drive might also be damaged. In that case you will need a new hard drive

Ihave a 6yr old 486 leading edge PC I had to go to Bios set up and i tried all three steps then i altered options to make system work by starting in standard Cmos set up under 47=user type i started with number 1 and when i got to number 33 Ms Dos took over and then my windows came on and my 486 is now working under 33=user type.hope this helps.
