Comment: I have just installed dram 30pin memory on my 486dx50 computer and found that the extra ram actually slowed my computer down by a substantial margine. I had 16megs of ram to start, but when I installed an extrra 16megs to bring it up to 32megs, the bios seemed to recgnize it fine, but when I went to try out a sample program, the video was slowed down by at least half. I thought that my problem was in my CMOS setup, but everything I've tried so far has come to not. I have an old American Megatrends bios{1992} which doesn't allow for as many options as the newer ones, but so far as I can figure out, the motherboard allows for up to 128megs of ram. I just can't seem to make it work. I'm using vesa local bus with a video card using 1meg of ram and 256kb of burst cache. If anyone can give any suggestions, I would be forever gratful. I'm at my wits end. Thank You.

Reply: (edit)Is your graphics card chip a cirrus logic. The cirrus logic gfx card on my old 486 can't use linear frame buffer modes if 16 megs or more of ram is installed. Hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)just a thought on video display adapters with 256kb memory, if you set your video at 800x600 the video response becomes so sluggish. It is better to stick to 640x480 16 colors if you only have 256 kb video memory.
