media player 5.2 beta problem

I have installed mplayer 5.2 beta and i want to use it to play *.mov (movie) *.waw , *.mp3 .....(and Other) files. But wen i tryng to open those types of files media player shows me the following message: Error. I tryed to open the file browsing thge directories were are the files but in files type media player shows me only "netshow files". How i can use mplayer 5.2 beta to play those files???
