Comment: In my windows 3.1 computer when I go to my main window the top of it is above my viewing area so I can not use the - + or X to expand or close the window. I can not get the window to move by holding down my right mouse button in the top area in order to get access to those buttons. I know it happened before a few years ago and a friend came in and fixed it in a minute but I forgot what he did. Anyone know what I can do?

Reply: (edit)ALT-F4 should close any active window. Are you running at a high video resolution? Some older monitors can only barely handle high-res and may displace the image. If that's the case, try launching Windows setup from DOS and select a lower resolution (if you can't do it from Win) A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend.

Reply: (edit)The screen needs to be pulled down into view. I tried changing the Resolution but regardless what resolution its at the top is out of view. Monitor adjustments to the screen will not do it either. I can still access FILE and close the screen but when I call it up again the top is still out of reach. I need to physically pull the whole window down and then expand it to normal full screen.

Reply: (edit)Ah, ok then try: ALT - space then M should be able to move the window with the arrow keys now. A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend.

Reply: (edit)Hey cool trick, I didn't know that one. Just tried it with Win 95, just hit ENTER when you have it where you want it. I had an installation of Win 3.1 a while back where the Internet Explorer window was stuck way up in a corner like that. I ended up reinstalling. Could have saved some time with ALT space!

Reply: (edit)Oh yeah - I'd just about forgetten about that one. A few conventions carry over to 9x (like double-clicking the top left corner to close a window)

Reply: (edit)You can also doubleclick desktop to call up the task manager, then cascade and size your windows.
