Dear...
I'm running windows FWG and decided to change
my display settings from SVGA 800x600, 16
colours to SVGA 640x480, 256 colours. (I chose
640x480 because none of the other 800x600
drivers would work.) When I did this I saw a
decrease in my screen realestate by about 10%,
right at the top. All of the window is showing,
it's just on a smaller screen area. Does anyone
know how to correct this problem, I like the 256
colour setting?
Thanks,
John

Hi John.

Does your monitor have buttons that allow you to stretch vertically and horizontally your screen?

You can fill the screen side to side and top to bottom with these buttons.

Pushing one of the buttons on your monitor may bring up a menu that allows you to adjust the settings or the buttons may directly stretch the screen without a menu appearing.

Take care,

Linda

Hi Linda,
No, there isn't any such adjustment, that I can see anyway. This is an old Toshiba T2400CS laptop.
Thanks,
John

laptop screens cant change screen resolution like crt screens for a smaller res on a laptop it phisically has to take up less space on the screen

you may want to try the offical drivers insted of windows generic drivers

(you will probably get 800x600 256)

almost forgot after you downloaded it put it in an empty directoy and run it

the files will all be extracted copy them to a blank disk

start your laptop in dos put in the disk
type "cd windows" without quote
type setup but insted of picking a driver select other (provide a disk) or sometihng simler it should give you a list of colors and modes for the proper drive :)

Dear...
Just to update everyone on how I made out with this problem. I hunted around and eventually found the drivers I wanted at: http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/files_Archive/Index/display_drivers.htm
The dowload was called SVGA857.exe and the specific drivers were Toshiba W3.X 640x480x256V1.2-6small.
These drivers gave me 256 colours with no loss in screen real estate.
Thanks again,
John
