Hiya
I am at work at the moment and we have a laptop which we need to identify. I know that in Win98, you can go to REGEDIT and Find ProductKey. Is there a way to do this for Win3.1?

hello eddie Windows 3.1 did not require entering a keycode, product code or otherwise. It also did not have a registry, the files *.sys, *.ini, *.bat did this function instead. The first microsoft operating system that came with a product code and certificate of authenticity was windows for workgroups 3.11, and the first microsoft operating system that required entering a keycode and a registry was windows 95. Your copy of windows 3.1 is legitimate if you can verify that the installation disks are genuine microsoft. hope this helps

Thanks Dude. Yes, they are true disks so at least we know why I couldn't find the ID in the registry.
