Comment:

I have used 3.11 on some smaller
computers and some friends computers.
Now I am not complaning since 3.11 is the
ONLY logical solution to some older computers.
But I noted a very short life span of the
install about 2 months was all it would last
and then a fatel crash.......

Just woundering if this is normal?
And what other people have seen as far
unrecoverable crashes.

I have been using Dos 6.22 and Wfw 3.11 for four years on an old 486 with 4mb ram. Never yet had a crash of any kind which I couldn't track down to me doing something stupid. Also running wfw on Dos 7.10 thanks to Wengier and all running sweet as a Rolls Royce. What will really cause me lots of angst is when a bit of hardware fails - what chance replacement parts??

It all depends on what you do with it! A basic install with a few programs should last years as Valerie says.

However if you are loading games which have been badly written or you are always trying to tweak your setting it may not last so long.

Normaly Windows 3x slows down with time and full crashes in less than a year is not that commen.

My advice to you is to keep regular backups of any vital data. I have a CD/R of a complete 3x install ready to copy back as needed. (Takes 3 minutes!)

if you speed disk (defragment) your disk every now and then, you will think someone changed your 286 with a 486!

even on new computers, a good defrag every now and then (Norton Speed Disk is better than regular DOS Defrag and Win 95+ Defragmenter) makes you feel as if the computer has gone back into turbo mode.

I have 16-bit versions of MS Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter like with 95, but when i try to do somethign I get a "Disk Locked" error. ???

Interesting......

I was running 3.11 on an 450p3 overclocked
to 540 and the defrag went so fast I could
hardley see it. Are you saying that
Norton Speed Disk is Faster...or SAFER..
Than the defrag supplied with 6.22?

Thanks.........
