Hi everybody!
I just got Laplink2000 and a genuine yellow Laplink LTP Cable. The program seemed to work fine and I was fascinated watching the double screen showing the two computers transfering files from Win31 to the WinXP. But it was a disaster. Nothing transfered, and so many files on my XP were corrupted that I had to reformat and reinstall XP and all my applications.
I need help. I am afraid to try again. What is happening? Does it have anything to do with transferring files from a computer with a FAT16 file system to a computer with with a FAT32 file system?? Did I make some stupid mistake in setting up the Laplink2000 software? I'm at a loss and don't have a clue!
Thanks for any useful comments.
Stan

No idea what happened, but I doubt very much if it has anything to do with Win31. To most networking applications, disk format is irrelevant. This is true for actual NIC connections, as well as other types IF the software is designed that way (FileMaven for example). Older software, such as DOS Interlnk has problems with FAT32, but I wouldn't think that would be the case here.
Suggest checking the Laplink 2000 documentation, cables and your XP configuration. SP2 isn't installed is it? Heard a few horror stories there.

Did you install the different versions on the Win 3.1 machine and the Win XP machine?
My read of the docs does not show support for Win XP. The errors appear like that of a FAT16 system writing on a FAT32 system.

Laplink 2000 can transfer between FAT16 Win3x & FAT32/NTFS NT family:
http://www.computertimes.com/may00edchoicelaplink.htmIt was not specifically designed for XP as it had not been released in 2000.
Only real problem is with Long File Names and if you transfer Windows System Files of the same name to differant platforms.
PowerLoad is part of the Oldfiles Network

You are absolutely right. Windows XP is not compatible with Laplink2000. I searched Laplink's KB and found the article, "LapLink, Inc. Products Compatibility with Windows XP" and they confirm. I must upgrade.
But I thank all respondents and I am very glad to hear that transferring transferring files from FAT16 to FAT32 is not a problem. I also apoligize for my extreme tardiness in responding. I'm embarrassed to say I forgot where I posted my question.

Glad you were able to figure things out.
