I've installed win 3.11 on a Compaq Lite 4/40CX and all is well except the keyboard will not work in windows.
It works great in DOS and I got a serial mouse to work, so I've tried all the different keyboard settings.
Any idea where to find a driver for the keyboard?
Thanks

Yor windows directory shuld have the drivers you need. You can at least check that your system.ini has the following settings right(just in case)
in [boot]
" keyboard.drv=keyboard.drv " (no quotes ,and just the generic one should be OK) and in
[keyboard] theres four or so entries the last of which is "type" usually entered as "4" but if all else fails try different numbers and see if it helps.Next in boot description it will say which type of keys you have-like "enhanced 101 or 102 US "etc -i cant say what to put here except to say that the phrasing of this entry probably doesnt affect the functioning of your keyboard (but dont hold me to that!). If you know you have a different keyboard than it says, tho that might be a clue.
the last thing you should check is in the [386 enh] section for
"keyboard=*vkd" (a virtual driver that must be loaded for you to hasve keys in 31 -i think!).The asterik indicates the driver is in the kernel and not a seperate file -but it still needs to be loaded, like any driver.different mice (mouses?) like microsoft and logitech often come with their own virtual drivers, and on uninstallation sometimes this setting isnt returned to its previos setting.

Thanks,
I played around with what you told me, and now both the mouse and keyboard work!
Regretfully, I'm not sure at what point that happened.Charlie Swanson
