Hi...I need to find out what I need in order to hook up a midi keyboard to my computer. I have an IBM windows 98 system, with built in sound card, but I have no plug-in for a midi keyboard. I have a joystick plugged into the back of the computer, which I have been told is where you would normally plug in a midi keyboard. But the plug I have for the joystick is an oblong plug in. Do I need to buy software, or not? Thanks.

The keyboard, YES does plug into that joystick port... which is properly a 'Game/MIDI' port. You will probably need an adaptor of some sort to be able to plug it in there. And YES you will need software to enteract with the keyboard. I reccommend CakeWalk... you can get more information at http://www.cakewalk.com
