Simple answer is NO you cannot run 2 versions of Windows at the same time.
You cannot even install Win31 under Win98 DOS (MS-DOS 7.10) as it disables the GUI in Windows 3.1 There is a patch somewhere that is able to fix this. But I would leave well alone if I were you.

Back in the day, Windows 3.11 was considered a huge program, and to have enough room for DOS, Win 3.1, AND your Windows 3.1 apps, you had to have about 75MB or more!!! 200 MB was considered overkill. But in today's world of 80 GB harddrives, have you considered just adding a FAT 16 partition to your harddrive and installing DOS and Win 3.1 there and adding a boot manager to make it a multi-boot system?
It's not that hard. As for your way, I tried it. It doesn't work. Not even restarting in MS-DOS mode, because the system will tell you something like "this version of DOS is incompatible with this version of MS Windows." I've tried. I've never heard of the patch, but that sounds cool. PHIL, if you know more about that patch, or if you find it and try it, Christiaan, please let me know.

I have Windows 3.11 with a Calmira shell and Windows 98SE co-existing on a FAT32 harddrive. I used the 3XSTART.exe patch to do so. Read the directions carefully. You can download it at www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/win3x.htm (bottom of page)

Thanks you guys for all the replies!
I got an email of a guy which said that he got an program to run win3.1 in win 98 but I think it is just the 3XSTART.exe patch. He didn't send it to me, but only said that he could send it when I was interested. I didn't tried the patch which I downloaded yet, because I have to backup all my data before repartition my hardrive and install it. I don't think it could be a problem. Like I said before thnx for the help!! I really apreciated it
