Have a P2P network with W98se,XPpro and Win3.10 with Win3.10 user set as Basil.
Win3.10 can ping router,W98se and XPpro okay and see the drives on W98se and XPpro okay.
W98se and XP only see's Win3.10 as "Basil MS-DOS Peer Server" and not its only HD, C:.
Win3.10 has MS Network Client 3,TCP/IP,net.exe,net.msg,neth.exe,nnnet.exe and netshare.exe updated or added plus the system.ini in C:/net altered to file shareing=YES.
The hand is not under C: in file manager on Win3.10 nor is there a file sharing drop down in the menue.
Could anyone please advise how to
(1) Find the IP address allocated to the Win3.10 computer by the router so I can ping it from W98se and XP.
(2)To map C: on W98se and XP what form would the network path take. \\Basil\C: does not work.
I am trying to see C: on Win3.10 from W98se and XPpro.
Ip address allocation is set to automatic.

Are you using Windows 3.10 or Windows for Workgroups 3.10? If you don't know run WINVER, but I suspect that the windows you are running is not Windows for Workgroups.
If it is not WFW, you should really consider upgrading, as it's network capabilities are better. If it is WfW you can get your IP bay going to a DOS Prompt and using the command "ipconfig".

Alexanrs. I am trying to set up Win 3.10 and not WGWG. I am doing this on purpose as a learning exercise. W3.11 WFWG was a breeze to get onto P2P network.
Have taken one step back and trying to get DOS 6.22 onto my P2P network. All has been successful except when I try and map the DOS machine from W98SE or W2K or XP I am asked for the DOS password . I put the correct password in but am told it is incorrect. Have a lot more searching and reading to do.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Just to test: Try setting the DOS password to an empty string.

What are you using? MSClient, LANManager?
