Invalid system disk

CPU/Ram: 486sx-66 / 8mb

I was recently given an old 486. when I booted it up there was a French windows 95 (which i now wish I left on :) ) I formated the disk with the desire to reinstall win95 in english, although the bios doesn't support cd boot ups... I ended up installing windows 3.1 via a newer computer, although when i put the HDD back into the 486 I get an invalid system disk error.. I can't figure out the problem... HELP ... i want to get this computer running... (for fun :P)

you need to install msdos 6.22 before you install win 3.1 on the drive.
thats why its not booting

You can alternatively install PC-DOS7 prior to Windows 3.xx:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/dos

i appreciate the help... I've never installed 3.1 before.... hopefully i can get my vinatge system running :P
