Some how I deleted win 95. I made a boot disk from win 98 (Could not find win 3.1 boot disk). I went to the command prompt to reinstall windows, but after the cpu read the setup.ini file, It said to "Where to install". So I put C:\win. It Would NOT let me. So I went back to the prompt and said missing operating system. So I went to the command prompt again and typed C:\dir. A message came up saying "Invalid media type reading drive C:\. Is there any way to fix this and reinstall windows 3.1? If so, how?

Are you on a Compaq by any chance ? Some Compaq BIOS's have DOS emulation built in so that you think you're running DOS, but it's really just a DOS-like interface shell. In any case, you will probably have to format C: by booting from a DOS floppy disk and running the format command on the Windows Setup CD. This should run fine from a Windows 98 bootdisk.

Invalid Media Type is the error reported when the hard disk needs to be formatted, after it's been partitioned. Hopefully you did this on purpose....

Yeah this has happened to me with win 95 you will need to use a bootdisk with fdisk.exe and format.com on it. boot the computer and use fdisk to create a primary dos partition. once you have done this go to your a: and type format c: hope this helps jared
