My windows for workgroup 3.11 loads and everything is ok but when i exit from windows the machine hangs with "invalid command.com" error
I think this is something to do with memory as it wont even go to win 3.11 if scandisk is automatically run in autoexec.bat if I include scandisk in autoexec.bat same error as above comes after executing the last line in autoexec.bat but if i remove the entry relating to scandisk from autoexec.bat it will go into win 3.11 but the error comes when i exit from windows

Try to reinstall ms dos, with installation the command.com was replaced.
Probably you have a hdd psycical problem.
After you have reinstalled dos, don't load automatically win3.11 using win.com entries on autoexec.bat but run scandisk.exe from dos without starting windows and exiting from it.
