Comment:
i have a dual boot system with windows xp and dos 6.22/windows 3.1. i know windows 3.1 may be a bit old to run on this computer, but i need it for some old windows programs. when i try to install internet explorer 5 for windows 3.1, i get the message "you need at least 4mb of memory to install this program" even though i have 512mb of ram. i put 32mb of SDRAM in, and still got the same message. i also tried it on a celeron 433, and still got the error. Does anyone know a solution for this problem, as i can't stand the instability of any other windows version :s

You might need a new version of HIMEM.sys

Have you got both HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.SYS loaded via your Autoexec.Bat & Config.Sys files to free up lower memory?

You need to start the setup program with the switch /f:16 This will force Internet Explorer 5's setup program to recognize only the first 16MB of RAM. To do this, you would use the run command in Program manager. (File, Run) and enter the path to the setup program followed by the above switch. For example, if the installation program was in c:\msie50\, you would type in: c:\msie50\setup.exe /f:16 If this is not the correct path to your setup files, substitute in the proper directory path.
