i am upgrading an old Gateway PC & i wanted to know which chip will run faster/better on my machine? an Intel Pentium Pro 200mhz CPU, or an Intel Pentium 200 w/MMX?
my MOBO manual says that both chips are supported. i found someone in my local area who is selling both chips & i need to know which one i should buy.

any help would be appreciated.

For the best performance go with the Pentium 200 MMX. The Pentium Pro was designed for 32-bit workstations.

Well both processor run at the same speed and are 32-bit! That is obvious! Howerver the MMX has many adventages over the standard PII 200. If you have the choice between both, choose the MMX chip.
Make sure as mentioned in the above post that you have a motherboard that support the CPU socket type which is Slot1 or Socket 7. If you don't then you can't ugrade.
Hopefully this will bring some light to your upgrading process.

Go with pentium mmx. Pentium pro isn't as stable. It runs some programs faster than a Pentium 2,but others at slower than a 484dx4 100. It's really strange.
