I am trying to install win 3.1 on a Pentium 60, 40 Ram. I get a message that I have the wrong command.com when the computer restarts. This comes after a message that I should change the config.sys and autoexec.bat and then restart and type win at the dos prompt. Have also tried to install win 95 on the same computer, but when it start windows for the first time I get a message that it cannot write to drive C.

I would go with the windows95. You must set up the bios to boot to the cd rom. then put the win95 disk in and start the computer to that cd and then install it. If your bois does not start to the cd then you need a boot up floppy with the system files on it. then you need to fdisk and format the hard drive. then you need mscdex.exe and your cdrom drivers loaded. then restart the computer and then load win95.
good luck
