Hi,
I have a question.....

I have a compaq Contura 4/25. The floppy drive seems to be faulty. I can not install any software or drivers.

All I have is MS DOS 6.2 and Win 3.1 , a Serial Port, a Com port and a PS/2 Port.

Is there anyway I can use Windows Terminal or any other standard feature of the software defaulty installed to get any data onto this machine via another machine?

Cheers
Lou

A zip drive with parallel port adapter? (I am assuming you have a parallel port.)

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users

Either fix the drive problem, or use a serial/ parallel cable "null modem" cable known variously as "Laplink, PCanywhere, Direct Connection, and a few other names.

Find and download a file called ll3.exe, the old, DOS based "laplink 3" It is or was available from "Micks Power loads"

Another good "networking" file is Xtree Gold's xtlink.com. You should be able to download it, too

Frankly, an old machine without a working floppy is a real pain in the xxxxxx

I'd be for 'afixin' that floppy.

Like name said, probably the easiest way for you to transfer programs short of replacing the floppy drive is to use a laplink cable. Find all the relevant software and information in my

Lightspeed's reference page -> Networking

Hi, Great stuff the laplink and interlink worked perfect. Is there anything like intersrv that works on Windows XP so I can easily link between my main laptop and this old laptop? Also is there anyway interlink will see IDE cd roms? Many Thanks Lou
