TRYING TO INSTALL CD-Rom instructions say remove 40 pin connector from hard disk drive and plug into new Cd ROM,but if i do this then the Hard disk drive will be unconnected is this correct ? Have three sockets -A 34 pin then 40 pin in the middle then another 34pin. The first 34 pin is connected to the floppy 1.44 drive the 40 pin goes to the hard drive then there is another 34 pin socket spare.Or do I unplug here and connect this end to my CD-ROM.SO connection is hard drive to CD-ROM. Can someone explain in very simple terms what I should be doing? Thanks Dave the snake

Okay Dave you need to get a double drive IDE 40 pin ribbon cable at the store. They are really cheap now. Thease cables have 3 IDE 40 pin connectors on them.
The longer part of the cable goes to your motherboard (that is where your HD was plugged in.) And then you plug your HD and CDROM into the other 2. Make sure to set the jumper on your HD to master and the jumper on your CDROM to slave.
If you manual says that you can plug only one device in the 40 pin IDE then you are out of luck. But I think this should work. The 34 pin connector is for another floppy drive like a 5 1/4. Dont forget to load the drivers in DOS for the cdrom. Good luck.
