I installed fprot and gnat on this oldie machine and am not sure where I should see the program to see if it did in fact install. When I double clicked there was a flash and then nothing with both progs. One was a zip file and one an exe. As I am not that familiar with 3x anymore I just thought someone may have some insite since there is no systray of start menu to check.

Sorry fprot is an antivirus program and gnat is a firewall!

If you've got the DOS version of F-Prot, then it's not an "active" version of virus protection. It only scans when you tell it to. Although the program includes it's own .pif to run inside of Win3.1, I've always had to modify it if I'm putting it into a Program Group (for whatever reason, it wants to look for the executable on "E:" drive). If you got it as a .zip file, you'll need to decompress it using WinZip or PKZip into a folder by itself and likely update to the latest definitions...

Never worked with gnat, so I can't offer much input...

Yep I have the dos version and I can't remember if I got it as a zip file as I am working on too many pc's at the moment. The files I have in the fprot folder are 316.new, command.txt, distrib.txt, english.asc, english.tx0, f-prot.asc, f-prot.exe, f-prot.ico, f-prot.pif, macro.asc, macro.def, new_vir.txt, order.txt, pgp.txt, problem.txt, read_me.txt, scan.txt, sign.txt, sign.asc, sign.def, sign2.asc, sign2.def, speed.txt, updates.txt, virus.txt. I know I did unzip something but I am not sure if it was gnat or f-prot.
How do I put it in the program group and update it?

1. Open PIF Editor

2. File
Open
(browse to the directory where the f-prot.pif file is stored---assuming C:\F-PROT\)

3. Change Program Filename to C:\F-PROT\F-PROT.exe

4. Create a shortcut (new Program Item) to F-PROT.PIF

Hi I need a little more info as win3.11 pif editor doesn't browse. As I have also never used the pif editor I need more details!
