I am trying to install Windows 3.1.1 in older but well built 486. It had been used only on a network.
Each time I try to install the program it asks for disk-2 but when I put it in it just keeps asking for it. Initially, I thought it was a bad disk. Not so. I have gotten others and tried them as well. Still the same problem. I have tried to install W 3.1 and 3.1.1. And, even 3.0.
And, no..I am not mixing the disks.
A Windows User's Guide suggested adding a line to config.sys (drivparam = /d:0/f:1).
I tried it and it didn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

dave, i've had that problem several times; you know what it was for me? a VIRUS. it was a tiny boot sector virus, that was on the first setup disk of the windows that i was trying to install. so i used a virus checker on another computer, to check all my floppies and clean them off. might be a good idea for you to do that, if you have access to another computer with a virus checker.

james - If you had a boot sector virus on Windows 3.1 disk 1 (which is not a boot disk) how did it effect your setup?
More likley that disk is corrupt, Wait a few days and get one via Mick Cs www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk (download server is out just now)

If you email me I can send you an image of disk 2. You might try creating a dir on your hard drive c:\mkdir
then copy all your disks into that dir c:\copy a:
then setup does not look for disk two specifically only the files, and copying all your disks to this directory will make setup run so much faster.G'luck

Thanks for your suggestions.
Nothing is working and I've used a variety of disks.
I've pulled this old SCSI drive out, it was only 35-megs, and am now looking for another one that is a bit larger and perhaps already has 3.1 on it.
Thanks again.
