install windows for work groups

Hi, I was given this LTE 5300, and would like to install windows for workgoups 3.11 on it. Right now it has no OS. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this OS? Thanks, John

WfW is not an O/S it is a GUI on top of MS-DOS so you need ideally MS-DOS6.22

Have a bit of a sniff around lightspeed.alturl.com as well. I have wfw + dos6.22 I think? Will have a scratch around as I think they are new and still in original packaging. Anyway PM me and will sort it all out!

the exact disk layout depends on setup.inf. Windows 3.1 was distributed in many formats, and it is better to transfer it, eg by way of a null modem or by way of copy all files to the same directory and install it from there.

O.K. I got the dos and win3.11 disks. Before I install same on this machine. Is it reasonable to expect to be able to access the internet with windows 3.11? Will I be able to check my email on my server, and do some light surfing? John

Well I was able to view sites like Lightspeeds and some that specialise in stuff for old OS's and I know there are email clients to get your emails that will be good for your machine. You'll see them on Lightspeed page and I think oldversions.com might have something. Remember that flash sites are a definate no and a majority of todays sites. You'll need ie or an older browser too not ie6.
