I'm having problems installing windows 3.1, I have copied the disks to my hdd, and then I run setup, but the instalation program keeps telling me that it can't find "winhelp.exe" or something simmilar.. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do.. I've checked all the disks, but this file is not on any of them.. Thanks, Tim prozacnationfr@hotmail.com

Given that this is in the Win31 forum, you want to load dos. Get your three dos installation disks and put disk 1 in your A: drive and boot the machine. When you're done loading dos, put disk 1 of your windows disks in A: and type a:\setup.

I had already installed dos on to the hdd. The problem I have is a missing file from the Windows installation disks. I have actually managed to get round this problem by renaming a *.txt file winhelp.exe, however, although windows will now boot fine, I have problems should I need to use the help files.. Any suggestions?

It sounds like one of your disks is short a file,Or it might be corrupt.Did all the Windows disks go in right one after the other? You might want to see if you can find another set of win 3.1 disks..

go to www.abandonwarering.com and find a site that hosts Windows 3.1 install disks. Using 6 or 7 blank disks copy the Windows 3.1 disk files you downloaded (uncompressed) to the disks.
