This is a small thing I found out while testing some of my old stuff:
I run a dual boot system (with PowerQuest BootMagic 8) with Win98 and MS-DOS7+WFW3.11. When testing IFA (with DOSLFN started before Windows) I found out that I could see the LFNs created by Win98+DOSLFN! I checked and no DESCRIPT.ION file in the parent folder of those LFN files+dirs!!!
I'd like to know something: Why does this happen? Maybe because it detects any LFN api. If so I'd like to knwo if LFNs generated by IFA will use DOSLFN to create LFNs.

Although this is taking me back a few years, I'm pretty sure i remember that IFA could read standard win9x long file names, (that is, without descript.ion files).
I remember checking out if it were , in fact, true, as i was reading it in the help file for IFA, where it said precisely that.
If you overlooked it while reading the help, it's understandable..it's pretty huge! (you DO read the documentation, right?)...

Obviously, i think i believe you think i said what you want to believe, but i think you didn't believe what i think i really said...

Yeah, i read the documentatioin, but not very deeply... Well, I pay more attention in README.TXT, README.WRI, READ.ME and other variants, but the readme file that came with my IFA only said about bugfixes in different builds... but I did read the following sentence in IFATOUR.HLP:

"If you use Windows 95, you will see actual Windows 95 long filenames in your Windows 3.1x file dialogs. When saving files with long names, the long name will be viewed as a long name in Windows 95 applications."

I had no idea that these LFNs were displayed through the same API DOSLFN uses (int 21h), I thought they used some Windows 95 dll.
Well, it shure is very useful. I've modified Calmira source code so it can use Long File Names, but it crashes on renamig, some problems in copying... but I often do these kind of things in Win98 or DOS and just for displaying and navigating it works great!

thanks a lot and sorry for any inconvenience

That's a pretty major tweak of calmira..i think whoever's presently working on it have been working on the LFN problem for some time..i think others might be interested in trying out your modifications..it sounds very! interesting..
Kudos for having gotten it done! (crashes notwithstanding...)
