Does anyone know waht the max res. and colours are for the TP 755c? Right now i can only get 640 480 res. and 16 colours max. I read somewhere that it is possible to get 600 800 res. and 256 colours. If anyone knows the answer please reply.
Thanks
Iggy

You will need the appropriate driver and, possibly, a BIOS flash. The files can be found Here

Uhh I have a Thinkpad 760, but I think this will apply to your system too:
Mine has a Trident 1 Mb videocard (the driver was very hard to find since its not a normal Trident card but I found it on the IBM site).
It gives me 800x600 16-bits (64k) color in Win9x and 3.11, which is enough I think ;-)The damn thing needs a lot of other (Win 9x and 3.11) drivers too which I found on the IBM site.
I think its best to make it dual boot
(Win98 SE and Windows 3.11).
Once you have done that you will see that the DOS/Win3.11 partition never has to be reinstalled and the Win9x does...
My Win98 partitions crashes all the time (again) and I don't know why ;-)

first thing... get the video features, and utility disk 1 from the IBM website. they are named:
vftps133.exe, and
uttpg101.exethe video features disk has a driver (vesa.exe) that will allow you to display 256 colors on the LCD.
the utility diskette contains the PS2.exe program that will allow you to change to an external monitor.
OK...
the ThinkPad 755C has a western digital (WD90C24A) chipset, with 1MB video memory. It's capable of 640x480, 256 colors when using the LCD.
If you want a higher resolution/color depth, you'll need an external monitor. I haven't attached one to my laptop on ages, but IIRC it can produce 640x480 (65536), 800x600 (256) 1048x760? (16)
GOOD LUCK.

Uhh well I have a Thinkpad 770 (not 760)with TFT so I guess thats why I have 800x600 16-bits color....

Does anyone know how to get atleast 256 colors on thinkpad 755c? I read on this page how to do it, but i dont know alot about display settings. the rest of a computer and laptop, i know about. im just asking for some help on geting drivers
THANKS!

With regard to the TP 750Cs. The reason windows95 will only display a max of 16 colors is because the bios is reporting that the display panel has a max of 16 colors to windows95. You need to install a bios extension file called VESA.exe which is run at start up, which will 'tell' windows95 that 256 colors can be displayed. Download the file called vftps133.exe from www.ibm.com. Run the file, it will make up a floppy. The floppy can then be used to update your operating system. Run 'VINSTALL' on the floppy, it will open a DOS window, and prompt you to select a display type. If you do not use an external display, just select IBM8511/8512, and press enter, the program should copy the VESA.exe file, and create a file called FRATE.DAT, and put them in a newly created IBMVESA directory on your hard drive, and then update your config.sys file. After a restart, you should be able to select 256 color in the display properties.
I have heard that sometimes the program will not write to the C: drive and reports an error. If this is the case, copy the contents of the floppy created by vftps133.exe onto a spare folder on your C: drive, place a startup disk in your A: drive, from the newly created spare folder on the C: drive run VINSTALL.EXE, select the display type as above, when the program prompts for a install destination, type A, for the A: drive and the program will install to the floppy drive. Next, create a directory on your C: drive and call it IBMVESA, copy the VESA.EXE, and FRATE.DAT files from the floppy into the IBMVESA directory on the C: drive. Open notepad and then CONFIG.SYS, add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=C:\IBMVESA\VESA.exe , save and exit notepad. Restart the PC, and you should now be able to change the display properties to 256 color.
This information is given without warranty of any kind. If you muck something up - I dont want to know.
