Comment: Does anyone know what I can do to get .mid files to play on this system? [IBM PS/2 L40 SX, laptop] When I run a .mid file, the Media Player pops up and I recieve the message "This Device Cannot Play". I was given this laptop and have no info on it or Win 3.11. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)First of all, you have to have a sound card. Second, you have to have a MIDI driver. However, I don't know if there is a MIDI driver for 386s, since the driver does need a fair amount of CPU processing to playback at the right speed. A fast 486 should be a minimum (I think).

Reply: (edit)A 386 with soundcard plays midi files just fine. Your problem however is: try to find an (external) soundcard for your laptop......

Reply: (edit)I have an IBM L40 SX which won't boot from the C drive - running 3.1 with DOS 5.0. It boots from the Dos dsk to A then requires C:\WINDOWS\win to boot into windows. I have win 3.1 and Dos 5 & 6.2 and workgroup for win 3x on disk BUT I haven't a clue how to get it to boot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS have reformatted and installed OS many times but the result is always the same also I don't remember how to get into the BIOS. Yes it's true I'm old, grey and forgetful.
