i wanted to re fdisk so i deleted the drive in fdisk and now it wont work
the ibm screen comes up with the flashing square for insert the bootable disc- i do and it starts up with the disc so it seems the a drive works and yet after a minute it again asks me to insert disc one for setup
its already in there
i cant put on a new partion

Lots of older IBM's and Compaq's had a diagnostic/setup partition.
Are you sure you didn't delete it?
If so, you'll need the setup disks (you need to be more specific about your system than what you've described above...)

That one apparently doesn't have a setup disk (most of the ones with setup disks were MCA desktops). Did you "format" and "sys" the drive after Fdisk?

i deleted the partition at the c prompt and rebooted without the win 6.2 bootdisc
i seemed to be able to put on fdisk and format again using a dos 4.01 setup/install disc but dont know if it worked
i think this thing is because the cmos battery is dead and it cant remember theres an a drive or its something else
thanks

You'll have to replace the CMOS battery before you ever make it usable. Otherwise it'll just forget it's settings every time you power it down.
Also, if it works with DOS 4.01, then it should work with 6.22. If you get it working with 4.01, then upgrade it to 6.22 ASAP (4.01 being one of the worst versions of DOS ever created)...

Only a masochistic would want to use DOS4xx
Setup is supposedly invoked by Fn + F1

Hi
I find it very hard to get info on these 1993 Laptops from IBM, apparently with the C standing for color, one of the first color screen portables. I've been able to use mine with an old dead CMOS battery, however, date and time are lost...most settings seem uneffected to me, however, my DOS 6.x disk 1 was written on and damaged... I can't format MS DOS anymore on a fresh HDD with it, sadly and some PC's still won't boot from CD ROM so I was left formatting to another machine, etc. How can I improve a Windows 3.1 HDD for this laptop in terms of the video? I read on GreyGhost list I get doing a search that two video drivers are mentioned for the 425 laptop, Notevid.exe dated June 1995, 'download to empty directory and run', and 350vdfix.exe, a file meant to fix a problem with the video on these, dated 5/20/94
Any ideas on what I can do, I'd love to hear, The batteries I have for mine, which was built from 3 IBM PS Note salvaged, don't appear to want to function, though one is NiMH!
I have a slightly damaged but working Maxtor 127MB (IIRC) and 80 MB HDD from a 386 processor Note-book
Thanks in advance, BILL S.
