I need help removing windows 3.1 from my compaq pressario and installing windows 98. I don't even know where to start to format anything. Im so confused please help. thanks

www.bootdisk.com download the win98 startup disk. then set the bios to boot from floppy drive. then, boot with the 98 floppy. in the menu, choose no cdrom support. at the a: a:\format c:/s [note the forward slash] that command will format the c: drive and make it bootable. then reboot with the floppy. choose cdrom support this time. change to the drive letter the files assing to the cdrom. if its e: e:\setup [with the win98 in the drawer] www.reinstallwindows.com theres help here also

Further to the above, two comments 1. You don't need to do anything to the BIOS to boot from the floppy. This is just as well - never, ever play with the BIOS unless you know exactly what you are doing. To boot from the floppy, simply turn the computer on with the floppy in the drive. 2. If you were not already, be aware that formatting the hard disk will delete everything on it, not just the old version of Windows. So don't do it until you have everything you want to keep saved onto floppies. Andy
