What you need is the DOS forum!

You can buy them very cheaply on eBay. It is illegal to download them or get copies from someone.

You are misinformed. It is a violation of the EULA to resell the software, as well. How MS actually enforces the EULA is another matter.

Not if you sell the full package; for example it is perfectly legal to sell a sealed retail copy of MS-DOS and there are plenty of those on eBay.

Either way it is still illegal to download it, no question about that.

Yes, that is right. The EULA takes effect when you break the seal on the package. Until then it is just a commodity.

Hi Denise!

Although this is not the DOS forum try this:
After booting with the upgrade version (6.22 dutch I have myself) of MS-DOS I exit with F3.
If you type in Setup after that it will probably install normally.

If this doesn't work try downloading OpenDOS 7.02, which is legal to use freely for personal use.
You have to download a file called: DOD702.exe from the internet and you'll need 5 blank diskettes.

Lightspeeds page has a link to this file I guess.....

Ethics/legality is your own decision, Denise. Whether you get genuinely helpful info in this forum (such as a link to go to) or a bunch of boy-scouts seems to depend on the weather.

This is a google search result (not a direct link, boyscouts) for the word DOS622_1.zip

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=DOS622_1.zip

Some links work, other don't. Use at your own risk, Denise, and do a virus scan on anything you download.

Well assuming your update is legal you could trick the setup and let it think there is an os to update.

simply exit the setup and transfer the system files to your harddrive by typing sys c:

now when you start setup again it sees the system files and it will "upgrade" your system which is in fact a complete installation.
