OK.. Here is the deal, my old computer (a 486/100....ooo, impresive!!) was running an upgraded version of win 95 (upgraded from 3.1). Not realizing that I would ever need to go back to 3.1 I threw out my old 3.1 disks (Dumb, I know!, since I only have the Upgrade version of 95). Well years later I turned my computer back on a had some problems so I reformated the hard drive (Thinking that I would just re-install win 95! DUH!! I know, I Know!!). Well as you can imagine I cant install the upgraded version of win 95 BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO UPGRADE FROM!!!!...Let me say that (As you all are now aware) I am computer challenged, but I learn quick. So I am in desperate need of getting win 3.1 or info on how to get 3.1....Because if I have to put up with that Damn C:\ prompt any longer I'll go Postal.....Sorry to Ramble....Thanks

why don't you look down the list. there are probably 20 or so posts from people who are offering these disks.

At the bottom of this link page there is a section on doing an install with just DOS and the Windows 95 upgrade CD. You can find other pages with hints by doing a search on Google.

no need 2 search Google!..just click HERE 2 enter my HowTo page...scroll down the list until u reach a link titled "Setup win95 upgrade as a full install"...click that link & a text file with instructions will pop up...
HTH...N1

Look at one of the previous forums for a link to download Windows 3.1. All you need is the first disk, as Windows 95 will only be looking to see if you own a set of the disks. Pop disk 1 of Windows 3.1 when requested by Win95, and you'll be able to start the install.

I have a fool disk if you want it also keep in mind you will have to install dos 6.22 first befor win95 upgrade came be install

Note for Windows95 upgrade CD users: If you are using a Windows 95 upgrade CD, instead of a full version CD, then you will be asked for disk #1 of a qualifying Microsoft product. They are looking for Windows 3.x. If you have disk #1 of Windows 3.x, put it in the A: drive. It will search the disk looking for one certain file to verify that you do indeed own the required product and thus qualify for the upgrade. If you can't find your original Windows 3.x disks ;-), you can still do the install of Win95. You will need a floppy containing the above mentioned file which is WIN.CN_ (the last character must be the 'underline' symbol). If you are having trouble finding this file you can create one in Notepad. Open Notepad and from "File" menu choose "Save As" and simply save the blank file with the name "WIN.CN_" . Then transfer this file to a floppy (you can even put it on your boot disk or start-up disk if you like) and insert it when you are asked for disk #1 of "A Qualifying Microsoft Product".

Haysus H Khrist on a Krutch!!!! You dont need "disc one" you dont need to install dos 622. You need a bootable floppy which will support your cd rom, if you are installing from a cdrom. Then, you need to make two "fake" files that Windoz 95 will look for. These do not have to be the real files, they just have to have the "real" file names. Using a text editor (like notepad or the editor in DOS) make two dummy text files and name them "win.cn_" and "win386.exe" I think I used to copy them to my bootable floppy, and then copy from there to the hd of the target computer. You may need to "sys" the hd, I don't remember. Believe me, I figured it out, you can too.
By the way, I just went to a church yard sale, and bought 95 upgrade on floppys, Word for Windows 95, and Office 95, plus some "tune up" software from Microgill all for 10 bucks.
