My computer was give to me and I changed the date and year.when I did this and turned it off it blew it's mind.I changed the date to jan.18,2001.It wasn't y2k ready.I know my programs are gone but how can I get it up and running again? I tried makeing a autoexe.bat,config.sys,& command.com 3.5" disk from a newer computer and all I got was a message that said non-system disk. what's wrong? also what should drive c:type be when I'm in setup screen?I have a intel 386 processor.where do I need to go to get the downloads I need?

To make a floppy disk, in the a: drive of a working system, bootable you need to execute sys a: from the command prompt. This writes a couple of hidden files as well as command.com
I would be surprised if changing the date wiped your hard drive! After you boot from the floppy look at the c: drive. If you had copied either chkdsk.exe or scandisk.exe to the floppy you could try these.

On my 386 pc I change the date/time all the time & after reboot it never gives me any problems & I know it isn't y2k ready. Try running scandisk like the above message suggest.

If you can identify the alptop manufacture, it may be worth your while going to their support site to see if they have any useful updates for your machine. Failing that, DRDOS 7.03 will "correct" bios failure to show correct time (apparently).
I have a Toshiba T1000LE 286 and I think that because of this date thing it wont boot properly. I.e. the best I got was a prompt saying that my hard ram drive had got corrupted then it turned itself off :)
