My laptop has gotten really messed up. I tried to reinstall windows after I had an error and my computer restarted after the setup program closed. I tried to boot into Windows, but the directory was never made and the files were never copied to the hard drive. please help!

Not much to go on - try booting into DOS and reinstalling. "Booting" into Windows is not a good idea if you're having computer problems.

What , exactly is the problem you needed help for?I realize youve got a problem , windows didnt install, or it did and theres some missing folders, but its not clear at all.If yove got no windows you dont need help here, you just need to reinstall it again.I do hope your apps werent in your windows folder (a lousy place to keep them, as you find out when youve got to reinstall ).
If you try to give some detail about ,precisely what seems to have gone wrong, im sure someone would be more than happy to help you out...

My system didn't install windows. I tried reinstalling after that, but the system didn't install any of the files.

What version of MS-DOS did you install? Or did you just start your PC with a bootdisk (again what version)

Just a reminder to everyone who's installing 3.11 and under, you MUST INSTALL DOS on your old pc first! If you can't get Dos to work you won't be able to get windows to work. You did install DOS right?

Funny, i think thats the identical problem i had with windows 2000- i spent 90 minutes installing it and ended up with just a few empty folders-it happened twice so i had my disk replaced for a good one -tho it wasn't easy "cd's arent defective users are" was the initial response.i challenged them to install it- they couldn't either :).
Whatever caused this bizzare situation might also be present in your situation- try a different set of discs!
