I can't get Modem to work

I have a 386 Enhanced, but am missing the ANTHOOK something or other, to run the enhanced part of it, so i guess it is just a 386. I'm running 3.1. I have a Zoom tech 28.8 modem and I can't get Trumpet or Netdial to work, I downloaded a program called Bananacom, and it detects and dials out, so i don't understand why i can't get it to work with anything else. I put the init string in and everything, I have searched all through the forums and have don't everything i could find. If anyone has time and knowledge, could you give me step by step instructions. Thanks a bunch. Roxy

Have you disabled the com port that your modem is trying to use.
In Windows 3.1, if your modem is going to use com port 2, you must disable the com port.
Depending on your computer, this is done either in the BIOS or with a jumper on your motherboard.

I should have said that the above only applies to an internal modem.

I can't get into Bios, i don't know what reference disk i need, I checked the forum and found where to get them, but don't know which one.

I cant get mine to work either I have a 14.4 modem I am trying to setup in win 311 and PC-DOS 6 3 I've installed it in com1 com3 gone through the connect to internet sequence umpteen times and at the end of best efforts got error message can not initialize modem.
